Workshop: June 1 (2 - 4

Enid Gonzalez, Senior Legal
Director for CASA de Maryland, will be offering a workshop to community members
interested in preparing applications for prosecutorial discretion and learning
more about this newly available relief for individuals in deportation
proceedings. Prosecutorial discretion allows individuals in removal proceedings
to obtain an administrative suspension of their cases upon meeting specific criteria.
Spanish speakers and those who have access to Spanish-language
interpreters are especially encouraged to attend this hands-on workshop.
Attorneys interested in working with CASA de MD pro bono on prosecutorial
discretion cases are also welcome to attend this free workshop.
Light snacks and refreshments will be served. Workshop will be held at Salisbury
University's Perdue Hall, room 151.

Speakers: Enid Gonzalez Aleman, Esq., Senior Manager of CASA
de Maryland¡¯s Legal Program, who will be speaking on the implications of the
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement¡¯s ¡°Secure Communities¡± program that
requires law enforcement to check immigration status when booking an individual
into jail.
We will also be joined by Elizabeth Matienzo-Bray of
Priority Partners who will be updating on her organization¡¯s health education
programs.

Speakers: Nurse Consultant Lisl D. Phelps, RN, MSN
and Nursing Supervisor Beverly Giles, RN, BSN, of the Delaware Division of
Public Health and they will be presenting on "Cross Cultural Competency in
the Public Health Setting."
We will also be joined by Tom G. Wells, District Director,
U.S. Dept. of Labor, Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP), who
will be informing us of the OFCCP¡¯s latest initiatives to reach out to Hispanics
to ensure equal employment opportunity by federal contractors.
