Friends of the Nanticoke River

Mission: To protect and preserve the unique natural, cultural, and recreational resources of the Nanticoke River watershed throughout its extent for the benefit of present and future generations

The Nanticoke River, on Maryland's Eastern Shore

 

Friends of the Nanticoke River ...

  • Represents the river in the face of pressures from sprawl development, relaxed wetland regulations, pollution, and the increasing population of the watershed
  • Has been active for over a decade in monitoring, advocacy, outreach, and stewardship
  • Has approximately 200 members from Wicomico, Dorchester, and Sussex Counties, other parts of Maryland and numerous other states
  • Is a founding organization of the Nanticoke Watershed Alliance, regarded nationally as an excellent model for watershed protection
  • Its local members volunteer in river clean-ups, water quality monitoring, oyster restoration, tree planting, and other projects that help preserve the river
