Volunteers are urged to join us along the Nanticoke River at two sites, one by boat, canoe, or kayak and one on dry land. The launching area for the “wet” site is located at Holly Shores off River Road. The “dry” site is located at the Chapel Branch Nature Area on Woodland Road.
WHEN: Saturday, September 27,2003, from 9 a.m. – noon.
WHERE: Dry site: Chapel Branch Nature Area. From Sussex Avenue in Seaford, turn right on Woodland Rd. The Chapel Branch Nature Area is about ½ mile down the road on the right. Meet in the small parking lot there.
Wet site: From Market St. in Blades, turn onto River Rd., opposite 5th St.. Go about 2 miles and turn right into Holly Shores; there is a large brick sign for this residential development. Go straight back to the 1st house on the right.
For more complete directions to both sites, please go to the NWA website at http://www.nanticokeriver.org
WHY: Marine debris is one of the most pervasive pollution problems affecting our oceans and inland waterways. It contaminates our water and can have a devastating and lethal effect on aquatic and marine life.
The Chapel Branch Nature Area consists of 190 acres, almost 2 miles of frontage on the Chapel Branch and the Nanticoke River, and contains forested upland and wetland habitat for many rare plant, animal, and bird species in the region. The DuPont Company conveyed an easement to the Nanticoke River Watershed Conservancy in 1999 to protect the area in perpetuity

In October 2002 The Nanticoke Watershed Alliance celebrated 10 years of working together for the river. NWA was established as a nonprofit organization of both Delaware and Maryland organizations whose philosophy and intent is to provide environmental stewardship to the Nanticoke River and its watershed. Almost 40 organizations now belong to the NWA. Our members are made up of foresters, industry, small business owners, government agencies, mainstream environmental groups, land trusts, realtors, academicians, fishermen, restoration groups, farmers, and citizen groups. We are all working together because the Nanticoke River is endowed with an outstanding abundance and diversity of wildlife, undisturbed land, and rural characteristics.
